I have been painting professionally in a variety of mediums and subjects for the past thirty years. Currently, I am enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts here in New Orleans. Continuous study and new techniques always inspire me to explore and create. My work has been displayed in many shows and galleries throughout the city and also Mississippi and Florida.
Painting interested me at a very early age. I had an introspective childhood that nurtured a gift of uncommon sensibility through the insecurities of adolescence to maturity.
Just as my subject matter varies, so does my paint. I work with many different mediums sometimes combining two or three into one piece. My favorite however is oils. Oil colors are brilliant, and the mixture of them becomes building blocks of tone and texture. Choosing a color complementary to my palette for a color play with subsequent undertone layers creates the richness and glow I strive for.
Sometimes, limiting a painting to one carefully selected idea can add to a works' strength and encourage the viewer to enter into its space. Occasionally, I will edit reality in order to declare the beauty or tragedy of an idea. Hopefully, my paintings evoke a sense of place for the viewer based on past experiences. I as the artist am describing the scene, but the viewer completes it by supplying what is personally meaningful.
At present, a little lady named Nattie Noodle has captured my attention. She represents my attempt to bundle up New Orleans in the form of a children's doll. Along the lines of the doll come the doll song, poem, and story book-all of which are at this time being developed.
